I’m not an architect, but I’m quite interested in architecture and design and love to go to architecture-related events and consume content online. So, in this article I’m recommending three YouTube channels I’m subscribed to that.
This is the YouTube channel of US architect Eric Reinholdt, who runs his own residential architecture studio ion Mount Desert Island (Maine). On his super-successful channel (almost 400,000 subscribers) you’ll find – quoting Eric himself: “Architecture tutorials, portfolio and design advice for students and professionals, architecture short courses, sketching and drawing workshops, architectural essays, product + book reviews”. Some of his latest videos show how he works, sketches, builds models. He also gives plenty of business advice for architects considering to start their own business (how to get clients, how to set your rates etc.). However lots of his content is not only valuable to architects but also to other freelancers and entrepreneurs (especially designers and other creatives). Also, some of the nitty-gritty details and architecture techniques and practices is quite interesting to watch, even if you’re not an (inspiring) architect. I highly recommend this channel for anyone only slightly interested in architecture, design and entrepreneurship.
I’m super interested in small space living and consequently the so called tiny house movement. All across the world many people – singles, couples, even families – are downsizing with some of the building their own tiny house. Such a house is often built on top of a trailer so it can be moved around or alternatively assembled out of shipping containers. Bryce Langston is a filmmaker, actor and author from New Zealand who, together with his partner Rasa Pescud travels around the world visiting and filming tiny houses and their owners. Through his YouTube channel “Living Big in a Tiny House”, Bryce gives is viewers a glimpse into each of the houses and talks to the owners about their tiny living journey and how they built their home. The tours include information on materials used, costs, and special features included (such as smart storage solutions and spots for pets). So, if you want to be inspired, or just want to see how people in other parts of the world live with a smaller footprint, check out this channel.

This is the accompanying YouTube channel to the online magazine “Freunde von Freunden”. The website, as well as the YouTube channel feature different people, particularly artists and other creatives, in their home and work environments. This is how Freunde von Freunden describe themselves and their YouTube channel: “We are an international interview magazine, that portraits people of diverse creative and cultural backgrounds in their homes or within their daily working environments.” The channel is great to learn more about how other creatives think and live and while content is not always added regularly, it’s always great to see a new video being uploaded.
