It's time for another book review! This time I'm not reviewing a brand new, recently released book, but a book that has been published quite a while ago (in 2014 to be precise). However I am now re-reading it and want to share some insights with you as I think it's a great read, especially for designers, artists, creatives and (online) content creators. And no, just to be clear: this is not a sponsored post.
"Show your work!" by Austin Kleon is a brief - only about 200 pages - book which is directed towards anyone doing creative work. It encourages you as the reader and creator to share your work - and not just your completed product or project, but the process that led to that finished product. Kleon points out that for creatives it is super useful to let the public take a peek behind the curtain and show them how you work, and what goes into producing the work. Any artefacts created while working on your artwork, music, painting, design (or whatever else you usually work on) can be great for sharing online via social media and on via your own website. Kleon highlights how important it is to share your process as well as what you have learnt along the way and to make sharing a regular thing alongside doing the actual work - he even encourages you to share something small every day. As he says inside the book: "It's about getting found by being findable, about using the network instead of wasting time networking".
